From what I can tell grubby is the bolt patterns are the same but the ports in the 49 heads are bigger. He got engine very hot some how and it warped the heads the block is ok but heads are not on the block. If I can make 44 heads work I would find a set of those.

Thank you for trying mark. Like I said I'm trying to help a guy out so if anyone has some or comes across any thing I would appreciate it. Rods and heads are needed. Again thank you mark and merry Christmas to everyone.

Where is the best place to get 49cui heads and rods for a briggs 49cui engine. This is on a grass cutter that I'm working on here at home for a guy that needs helped out. So the less expensive the better. Or where can I possible fine used parts. What mowers were the engines all on? I'm trying to help this guy's out. He's had a rough year. Thanks for the info guys.

John take a thick piece of flat metal cut it into a horseshoe shape heat it and kind of bend it down so that one piece sticks up and the other end is down kind of like a coil. Then weld it to the front of your spindle barrel you can vend it so that it is close to the frame. Then weld another piece of strait flat to it going to the center of your frame so that your drag link connects to it.
